12 Feb 2020
Member of Parliament for Kgatleng East, Mr Mabuse Pule has commended government’s commitment and efforts to transform the economy.
Commenting on Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Dr Thapelo Matsheka’s budget speech, Mr Pule said government’s focus on four national policies as priorities was a good move.
He said the four priorities were pillars that would enable the economy of the country to grow sufficiently and thereby appealed to the Minister to prioritise provision of infrastructure development, saying quality infrastructure was the foundation of every country’s economy.
Mr Pule said Kgatleng East was vested with rich soils that could produce quality crops that could feed Gaborone and other parts of the city.
He said government should focus more on such areas with close proximity to Gaborone when planning infrastructure.
He said with good quality roads within the Kgatleng East constituency and into Gaborone, the district would allow for markets accessibility in Gaborone.
Kgatleng East legislator further indicated that to attain economic transformation, government needed to improve and develop education in this country.
Mr Pule expressed concern at the deteriorating school facilities not only in Kgatleng East, but the entire country, adding that the conditions at schools were not conducive for teaching and learning.
He also commented on efficient government spending and financing, appealing to the minister to effectively monitor material costs to government by entrepreneurs.
Also commenting was Kgalagadi South legislator, Mr Sam Brooks, who said transformation could not be attained if quality basic needs such as health and education were only accessible in Gaborone.
Mr Brooks said government should put in place measures to bring such facilities closer to the people and avoid travelling long distances to access them.
However, Mr Brooks noted that there was need to find ways to generate income and diversify the economy.
He also applauded Matsha Senior Secondary School in Kang for their improved BGCSE results and implored teachers and learners to continue with the good performance. ENDS
