Former Selebi Phikwe deputy mayor passes on

Former Selebi Phikwe Town Council deputy mayor, Ms Bonang Lesole took her last breath, February 5.

Ms Lesole, one of the town’s first six councillors succumbed to a long illness.

She represented Botshabelo ward for 20 years, from 1974 to 1999 and served as deputy mayor from 1982 to 1993.

Former mayor, Mr Molosiwa Molosiwa confirmed having worked with Ms Lesole at Selebi Phikwe Town Council, describing her as a visionary leader who had the interests of the community at heart.

“Selebi Phikwe is what it is now because of her contributions,” he said.

Ms Lesole served in various organisations such as Botswana Council of Women, Botswana Red cross, Stepping Stones International, Tsogang Banna Tsogang Basadi to mention a few.

Mr Molosiwa said ‘Senior Citizen’ as she was affectionately called, deserved to be celebrated for her immense contribution towards the development of Selebi Phikwe, especially Botshabelo ward. 

He said Botshabelo started off as an informal settlement without social amenities such as schools and clinics, but with Ms Lesole’s contribution, it transformed into an area with proper roads, sewerage system, schools and a clinic.

“Not only was Ms Lesole a political activist, she was also a parent to many of us. She continued to give us guidance on social and developmental issues,” stated Mr Molosiwa.

The BDP stalwart will be buried in Botshabelo ward, Selebi Phikwe over the weekend.

 

She is survived by her husband and two grandchildren. ENDS
