Mmadinare MP, Mr Molebatsi Molebatsi, has implored residents of Damuchujenaa to be optimistic of a solution to their water situation.
Addressing a consultative meeting in Damuchujenaa recently, Mr Molebatsi acknowledged the problem of shortage of water in the area.
The legislator said a recent tour of the region could influence a faster response to the problem.
Mr Molebatsi said he was keen on coming up with interventions that would enhance lives of the residents, without imposing ideas.
“This is a new government, things are going to be done differently, in line with vision 2036,” said Mr Molebatsi.
He promised the constituents feedback on all the issues that concern them.
Responding to the issue of water shortage, waterworks superintendent for Mmadinare Cluster, Mr Moremi Tsiang admitted that Damuchujenaa had long awaited the Selebi Phikwe-Serule transfer scheme project that was deterred by lack of funds.
He said funds were requested from World Bank in 2017 and an environmental impact assessment (EIA) was done, but unfortunately rejected on the basis that it was incomplete.
He expressed his delight in announcing that the environmental social impact assessment was now submitted and awaiting response from the World Bank.
Mr Tsiang said he was optimistic that the assessment would be approved and anticipated the project to commence by September or October.
Responding to the residents’ concerns about high water bills, Mr Tsiang lamented that some people were using water to water their livestock and advised the constituents to make a habit of collecting their own meter readings.
Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Mogomotsi Rannyena said postal and veterinary offices were completed and awaiting water and electricity connections.
He added that a tower light was erected and a block of classrooms at Sedibe Primary School and requested that water be availed for water system toilets in contrast to pit latrines. Ends
