No plans to upgrade Mababe Health Post

11 Feb 2020

Ministry of Health and Wellness has not considered upgrading Mababe Health Post into a clinic due to budgetary constraints.
Assistant Minister, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe said the health post was part of the Bojanala Cluster, which includes Shorobe, Matsaudi, Sankoyo and Mababe villages.

Answering a question in Parliament from the Member of Parliament for Maun East, Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile, Mr Lelatisitswe said the cluster was covered by a doctor, who attend to patients fortnightly at Shorobe Clinic.

In addition, Mr Lelatisitswe said, “My ministry conducts outreach services to the camps and communities in the Savuti, Moremi and Khwai areas on a monthly basis.”

In addition, he explained that the outreach services were for purposes of providing healthcare services to those in the camps and communities within Moremi, Khwai and Savuti areas.

Furthermore, Mr Lelatisitswe said workers who were in need of job-related medical examinations were referred to Maun General Clinic for assistance.

Mr Kekgonegile had asked the minister if he would consider upgrading Mababe Health Post to a specialised clinic to serve the entire labour force and communities in Savuti, Moremi, Khwai and Mababe concessions.

The Maun East legislator highlighted challenges such as the long distance travelled to adequate facilities, terrain and worsening conflicts between tourism workers and employers in the delta, due to increasing non-issuance of permits to attend health facilities in Maun. ENDS
