Clean city campaign billed for March 18

The President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, is expected to officiate at the Gaborone clean city campaign slated for March 18.

The city mayor, Mr Father Maphongo, said this during a recent meeting with stakeholders to share his priorities for the city. 

Mr Maphongo said with the mission of seeing Gaborone clean and rising as a model the council intended to run a massive clean-up campaign with all residents on board.

The mayor solicited contributions and cooperation from all stakeholders and encouraged them to include waste management in their social responsibility as well as taking part in waste source separation, recycling and reuse.

He noted that the campaign would yield results for a clean and beautiful diamond city, adding thata, ‘as investors they should be  attracted to stay for the purpose of country’s economic growth and cleanliness, which would go a long way in enhancing the city’s attractiveness as an investment destination’.  

Mayor Maphongo further stated that the council would soon be clearing the bush around the Segoditshane River and convert it into an attraction site.

He assured the stakeholders that the council was also in the process of fixing potholes on the roads, streetlights and water drainage problems.

He encouraged stakeholders and private entities to partner with the government, revealing that the city council had partnered with BOFINET to improve WIFI connectivity and making WIFI hotspots around the city functional.

Mr Maphongo urged the stakeholders to also benchmark from other cities such as Windhoek and Kigali, which are some of the cleanest and beautiful cities in Africa. Ends
