United Congregation Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) Lephoi Region has donated 46 mattresses and 51 pillows to Nata’s Makongwa Primary School.
Handing over the donation recently, the region’s chairperson, Pastor Kgoberego Gwanga of Tonota, said the church had the responsibility of playing a meaningful role in the community.
He pointed out that faith without deeds was as good as dead.
Pastor Gwanga said the church often looked out for disadvantaged members of the community to support.
He explained that the Lephoi Region extended from Bobirwa to the Chobe District.
Tutume assistant council secretary Mr Uyapo Mafunye expressed gratitude for the donation noting that it was going to make a great different since there was a shortage of mattresses at the school.
The hostel houses 217 pupils made up of 129 boys and 88 girls with 108 bunk beds and only 102 mattresses.
Mr Mafunye said the UCCSA’s gesture was going to reduce the number of pupils sleeping on the bare floor.
The assistant council secretary appealed to parents, community leadership and pupil’s caregivers to caution them against damaging school property.
Council, he said, endeavoured to provide all necessities but pupils negated such efforts by being destructive such as cutting up mattresses.
On another issue, Mr Mafunye commended the hostel dwellers for good Standard Seven Leaving Examinations performance saying out of the 28 who sat for the exams, only five failed. ENDS
