Members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi have been  commended for playing a critical role in the country’s continued peace and stability.

 The commendation was made by Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane during a dinner organised for members in Gaborone on Monday.

  He said the fact that dikgosi were the foundation of their tribes had gone a long way in ensuring that democracy prevailed not only in communities but also at national level.

  The vice president said dikgosi had always been among the pillars that held the nation together.

“With dikgosi playing such a critical role in the country, it differentiates us from other nations hence making us unique,” said Mr Tsogwane.

 Describing chieftainship as the mirror of culture and depository of knowledge and national values, he said the insitution also instilled good morals and values amongst the people.

He encouraged dikgosi to continue with their spirit of voluntarism saying their hard work would continue to be recognised. Mr Tsogwane promised them that training workshops would be offered throughout the year as per their request made during the just ended sitting of Ntlo ya Dikgosi.

For his part, Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Mr Kabo Morwaeng said bogosi would remain enshrined in the country’s constitution as its role could never be outdated.

He said government intended to pursue reviewing of the constitution adding that dikgosi were expected to contribute meaningfully to the process.

In his welcome remarks, Ntlo-ya-Dikgosi chairperson, Kgosi Puso, applauded government for recognising bogosi as one of the key stakeholders in the development of the country.

He said the dinner provided an ideal context for the collective recognition, appreciation and celebration of specific successes and objectives achieved by dikgosi.

 

Kgosi Puso urged his colleagues to continue working together as a team and intensifying efforts aimed at strengthening their communities.ENDS
