The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development, Tumiso Rakgare, is happy with progress of the construction of Bobonong sports facility.
In an interview January 29, Rakgare said Heidi Dea Holdings looked set to deliver the facility on time.
The project is expected to be delivered in July.
Rakgare said progress was visible, despite the project being seven per cent behind schedule.
He said his ministry would continuously monitor the progress of various sports facilities currently under construction.
The minister said his frequent visits would present the ministry with opportunities to appreciate challenges faced by contractors and come up with interventions.
Rakgare also addressed employees of Heidi Dea Holdings at the site.
He appreciated their efforts to deliver the project on time.
He said the project did not only provide the community with the sought after facility, but was also meant to provide jobs for artisans.
For his part, site agent Mosimanegape Kootsositse, attributed the seven per cent behind schedule concern to late delivery of material by suppliers.
He also said some workers bunked work during some days, which ultimately affected the company’s performance.
Kootsositse appealed for a fulltime clerk of works, who would ensure that work moved swiftly as the company would not await inspection for a long time.
He said there was a smooth working relationship between his company, the ministry of youth and Bobirwa Sub-district Council.
Bobonong MP, Taolo Lucas also hailed the contractor for hard work.
Though he was happy at the progress, Lucas warned against a culture of abandoning projects at near completion stage.
He also alerted the contractor that as the area MP, he was committed to checking the progress of the project.
The facility is one of the 10 that government is constructing countrywide. ENDS
