The Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Dr Edwin Dikoloti recently officially handed over a community borehole to residents of Dintsana Village.
Dr Dikoloti said the borehole would improve the residents’ lives.
Dintsana settlement is surrounded by Gasita, Tsonyane, Sesung and Seherelela with a population of about 500 people and was recognised and incorporated into Seherelela in 2016.
The two settlements, which are nine kilometres apart are expected to grow towards each other, which is a challenge for Dintsana to access services.
The legislator said after several consultations, the community leaders decided to use the constituency community fund to drill the borehole during the 2018/19 financial year.
“The budget for the project was P200 000, the borehole was surveyed by Ground and Mineral services (PTY) Ltd at the tune of P7 778 drilled at P91 470 by C and Construction (PTY) Ltd and equipped at P91 366 by Nira Holdings (PTY) Ltd.
“The quantity of water reached is 12-16m3 per an hour and reached at the depth of 150m, which means we have abundance of water to quench our thirst,” Dr Dikoloti said.
He noted that the procurement of the project was not easy as the bids were way above the budget, until the community engaged the concerned companies for assistance, utilising the available funds.
“I wish to thank C and Construction and Nira holdings for extending their hand to help the Dintsana community,” he said.
He also thanked the residents of Dintsana for their patience as they had long waited for water.
Further, he thanked Water Utilities Corporation for assisting the community of Dintsana over the years, saying it had been using limited resources to provide potable water to the community.
He urged the corporation to continue supporting the village.
“Water is an important resource for human consumption and even for industrialisation, in simple terms, where there is no water, there is no life,” he said.
For his part, Gasita Ward Councillor, Mr Simon Ramaphoi thanked the community for their patience during the challenging times of water shortage and the concerned companies for their contribution. ENDS
