27 Jan 2020
Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) has been commended for donating two computers and a printer to Maiphitlhwane Primary School in Pitsane.
Speaking during the handing over at the school recently, the principal education officer, Mr Topo Mmolawa, said the education sector was in need of organisations like BTC to help learners obtain higher grades in examinations.
He said the donation was a great gift to both teachers and pupils as it would ease their work as well as improve pupils’ performance.
Mr Mmolawa noted that the school’s performance in the Primary School Leaving Examinations had improved from 61 per cent in 2018 to 70.6 per cent last year.
By donating the equipment, he said, BTC was growing the use of technology in schools.
He advised teachers and parents to acquire management and leadership skills in order to help pupils excel in their schoolwork and to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
For his part, BTC’s Mr Nelson Disang said the company’s mandate was to take communications to the people adding that the donation would solve many problems the teachers had been experiencing.
They would now be able to archive their work and track pupils’ performance.
He expressed the belief that with stakeholders working together, Grade D would be eliminated in schools.
He also advised teachers and parents to come up with initiatives aimed at improving learners’ results.
Mr Disang donated P1 000 to the school. ENDS
