 Francistown City Greens laboured to a hard fought victory 2-1 over Tonota FC at Jackalas No. 2 VDC grounds in the Debswana First Division North encounter on January 25.

In a match played in windy conditions, Tonota FC started the game positively, launching attacks from both angles pressing with Amantle Boikhutso and Kabo Nthoiwa as the offensive duo.

Nthoiwa proved to be a thorn in the Greens defence, but his finishing proved to be his let down.

Boikhutso was also wasteful as he could have buried City Greens in the first five minutes of the fast-paced game.

He missed a golden opportunity to finish off a well calculated move as he collided with City Greens goalkeeper, Agang Sedakwa, who parried the attempt away, much to the relief of the home fans.

City Greens managed to neutralise the Tonota offensive and took the game to the visitors, for which they were rewarded with an opening goal in the 33^rd minute when Keiketile Setlhare opened the account.

However, City Greens joy was short-lived as Tonota lads equalised within seven minutes through Nthoiwa, who blasted home a rebound after his first attempt was blocked by Sedakwa.

A minute after the visitors equalised, City Greens showed intent when they went ahead again as Carlos Penny capitalised on a goal-keeping blunder.

Tonota FC goalkeeper, Thabang Golekanye tried to distribute the ball quicker, but it ended up hitting his own defender, which redirected the ball to the opponents.

The ball fell on the way of an alert Penny, who buried the opportunity to the delight of the home fans.

City Greens pushed numbers upfront and caught Tonota on the counter with Setlhare, Nthebolang and Penny proving to be the most difficult customers for the visitors’ rear guard.

In the second half, Tonota came back into the game looking positive and forced the City Greens defence manned by Amogelang Taolo, Mojamorago Gobutsemang and Christopher Motlhaping to sit back and defend ferociously as they looked for an equaliser.

Tonota FC’s attacks were all in vain as the hosts managed to defend their lead until the end. ENDS
