All Against One race flops

The much anticipated All Against One race between renowned 800m runner, Nijel Amos and challenger, Kgotso Mpenya, will not materialise due to contractual disagreement.
The race was scheduled for the National Stadium on Saturday.
Mpenya of clothing brand, Lavendro, previously announced that Amos would pocket P500 000 if he wins the race but should he beat Amos, the athlete would give him free advertising with tagline: Lavendro brand deserves a chance.
In an interview on Tuesday, Mpenya said the Saturday race would not happen due to contractual disagreement between the two contenders.
However, he was optimistic that they would iron out outstanding issues and set another date for the race.
“I earnestly yearn for this race to take place one day. I trained and have already sourced kit for the race, its flop would be my loss. I value Nijel but if he thinks there is nothing he can do I will just donate the kit” he said.
For his part, Amos said it was prudent to avoid risks that could cause injuries ahead of the Olympic Games.
“I sustained an injury at the World Champs and still in the rehabilitation process. I have not yet done checkup and racing clearance. I deem it wise not to jeopardise opportunity to participate in the Olympics that I have been horning my skills for. The race will be postponed under those circumstances,” he said.
Amos thanked Lavendro Group for support and understanding on this matter, saying they would continue to worki together to ensure the race comes to pass.
BAA vice president-technical, Tshepo Kelaotswe, said all the association knew was that certain aspects were likely to affect the race.
“They are yet to come back to us for an update. I am not in a position to confirm or deny, whether the race will take place on Saturday or not,” he said.
Furthermore, Kelaotswe said to date the organisers had not requested for the race’s technical officers from his office, which he said was one of the procedures to be followed when there was a track and field event.
“Normally we prepare for the race in two weeks’ time, we inform our technical officials about the event, but with this race nothing is on our table,” he said. Ends
