21 Jan 2020

Member of Parliament for Gaborone South, Dumezweni Mthimkhulu, says he attaches importance to development and constituents’ welfare.

Addressing a kgotla meeting at Urban Kgotla recently, Mr Mthimkhulu, stated that he intended to advocate for development and accountability.

He encouraged residents to benchmark from Old Naledi, which had already set up a leadership forum, consisting of government officials, Ward Development Committee members and residents.

The forum meets regularly and is already bearing positive results, he added.

“A forum of this nature would make it easier for you to voice your concerns regarding the development of your wards and to have easier access to the MP’s office,” he said.

Mr Mthimkhulu, who is also the Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, said he was planning to setup an old age home and a youth recreational facility, adding that consultative meetings were ongoing with the Gaborone City Council and potential investors.Regarding residents’ concerns about the high crime rate in their area and lack of street lights, he promised to attend to the issues raised.

In her remarks, Kgosi Patricia Radipati congratulated the MP for having been appointed the assistant minister, saying they were expecting a lot from him and hoped that he would develop his constituency.

Kgosi Radipati further pleaded with residents to formalise their unions and take advantage of arrangements such as ‘Rea Nyalana’. She said the high cases of fights over inheritance were worrisome. ENDS
