Gobojango water situation to improve- Lucas
19 Jan 2020
Member of Parliament for Bobonong Constituency, Mr Taolo Lucas has told his constituents in Gobojango that officials of Water Utilities Corporation have reassured him that shortage of water in their village will improve in a few weeks.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting in the village recently, Mr Lucas told residents that WUC officials informed him that Gobojango would be connected, as a temporary relief, to a reservoir tank about six kilometres from the village.
The move, the MP said, would help alleviate water challenges as the village awaited connection to Thune Dam pipeline.
The legislator promised his constituents that he would constantly follow up the matter until the project was delivered and residents supplied with potable water.
He also informed the residents that he met with Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila who promised that the villages of Lepokole, Gobojango, Semolale, Motlhabaneng and Mabolwe would be connected to Thune Dam water pipeline.
Mr Lucas rallied his electorate to join him in seeking and inquiring about being supplied with potable water.
The villagers through village development committee reported that residents were drinking saline water against expectations of being connected to Thune Dam pipeline as promised in 2010 when dam project started.
Villagers claimed that they had been informed that considering the shortage of water, they would be among the first to drink from Thune Dam.
At the same meeting, an official of WUC Mr Meshack Mogapi confirmed that Gobojango would get a temporary water relief starting next week.
He said that the corporation managed to source surface water pipes to draw water from the reservoir which had long been put in place.
Mr Mogapi said the project to connect the villages which were currently not connected to Thune Dam pipeline, would begin in May conditional to availability of funds. Ends
