More facilities on plans for Khwai

16 Jan 2020

The Chairperson of North West District Council (NWDC), Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotho says there is a plan to bring more facilities to Khwai such as roads, electricity and schools as the village plays a very crucial role in promoting Botswana’s tourism.

Mr Ntsogotho said this when addressing residents of Khwai during a service delivery event held on January 14.

“I encourage you to remain patient as these facilities will not be implemented in a blink of an eye. Rome was not built in a day,” Mr Ntsogotho said.

He also pointed out that since the village had tourism sites, the council was in consultation to request for the establishment of a tourism committee in the village, as a way of promoting tourism.

Meanwhile, Kgosi Lesie Kwere of Khwai encouraged the NWDC to help the underprivileged with basic needs as most of them were living in poverty.

Kgosi Kwere raised concern about lack of public transport to Maun where they get services such as health and education.

The Council Secretary, Mr Motlogelwa Thuso said their aim was to deliver services to the communities without discrimination, and they would continue moving to remote areas to do so.

Mr Thuso also called on different companies to assist in the development of Khwai village so that it can attract more investors, hence creating more employment opportunities for the residents.

The village Social Worker, Ms Barulaganyi Ditirwa said Khwai was facing challenges of alcohol abuse and high number of school dropouts.

Ms Ditirwa said the high number of school dropouts could be  a result of the distance children walk to school and lack of knowledge.

She urged the council to create recreational facilities which may result in reduction of alcohol abuse.

Different departments such as Directorate of Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC), Architecture and Buildings and Department of Education took the opportunity to sensitise the community about their services. ENDS
