Palapye qualifies for town status

13 Jan 2020

Palapye meets the requirements of being a town, MP Mr Onnetse Ramogapi has stated.

He said this during one of his kgotla meetings at Boikago Ward recently that the requirements included a mine and an university.

Palapye, he said,  had Morupule Coal mine and Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST).

Mr Ramogapi said he had shared his views in Parliament and was hopeful they would be considered.

He said the suggestion was based on the fact that currently Palapye had to share the budget allocation with the other constituencies such as Lerala –Maunatlala, Serowe South and North East.

MP Ramogapi said the state of affairs slowed down the development process in Palapye.

Meanwhile, he has applauded residents of Boikago for voting for him and his team of councillors, assuring them they would never disappoint.

He expressed concern about overcrowding of students at the vocational training college, saying the college had an enrollment capacity of 1 000 students but had enrolled 1 500.

To rectify the situation, government had decided to enrol according to capacity.

For his part, Boikago Ward councillor Mr Daniel Mogale assured the MP of councillors’ willingness to work with him. Ends
