Swimming team ready for champs

- Botswana Swimming Sports Association (BSSAA) has announced a formidable team to represent the country at the CANA Zone IV Swimming Championships

Botswana will host the CANA Zone IV Swimming Championships from February 20-23, at the University of Botswana Swimming Pool.

Team Botswana manager, Mmontle Jack, said in an interview that they were confident that they had selected a strong team.

She said some of the swimmers were based outside the country, therefore they were still awaiting confirmation of their availability.

All the swimmers, she said, had been training, while others had been competing in other competitions.

Some swimmers, Jack said had been competing in Namibia, Tunisia, Morocco and Budapest, which she said would come in handy for Team Botswana, given that they had been active.

“To be honest, the swimmers are much ready to rule the water during CANA Zone IV Swimming Championships and they are all looking forward to the competition,” she said.

In the boys under 17 category, Botswana would pin its hopes on James Freeman, Adrian Robinson, Ethan Fischer, Tumo Setswammung and Solomon Dzingai.

In the 15-16 years, Andile Bekker would be expected to dominate, together with Brandon Rouse, Benco Van Rooyen, Takunda Gondo and Ethan Harry.

Learako Molefe, Kgotla Mokobi, Mmusi Matthews, Thabang Seetso and Yusuf Gamroudi will battle it out in the 13-14 years old category.

In the 12 years category, all eyes will be on Junior Keitsile, Ethan Haskins, Abaleng Mmelesi, Nathan Seetso and Khalid Sethi.

In the girls  over 17,  the experienced Naomi Rule is expected to lead the team, together with Ruvarashe Gondo, Tayla Vos, Leone Van Rooyen and Amantle Mogara.

 In the 15-16 years category, Maxine Egner, Tselane Matthews, Naya Hughs, Shamiso Matondze and Caitlin Lobo will represent Botswana.

Michelle Jack, Kimberly Ingwe, Mutinda Mutie, Amaru Ditlhogo and Kyra Harry will compete in the 13-14 years category.

In the 12 years old category there is Ji-uen Chang, Thata Ramakoloi, Yun-Sun Chang, Naledi Merafe and Renee Oagile Motso.

CANA Zone IV Swimming has 14 members being: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, who are expected to converge on Gaborone. ENDS
