Kweneng trust plans awareness activities
12 Jan 2020
Kweneng Development Trust (KDT) has planned a series of activities aimed at creating awareness about its existence and mandate.
Speaking in an interview, the Trust’s Administrative Officer Ms Itumeleng Botlhoko said through the planned projects, they wanted to be visible and for the residents of Kweneng to appreciate them.
The planned events include Kweneng Charity walk, market day and establishment of a park.
The Charity walk is billed for April 4 and will be held in Molepolole.
Ms Botlhoko said they intended to hold the walk annually in different sub-districts.
She said proceeds from the walk would help the trust to undertake various social community projects around the district.
Ms Botlhoko cited that one of their beneficiaries would be a woman of Letlhakeng who makes coffee using motlopi (boscia albitrunca or shepherd tree) but does not have funding for initial stages.
She said the Trust would assist her and guide her to benefit from other available programmes.
The trust’s aim is to empower local communities, but not duplicate government initiatives.
She appealed to the society to support them in their endeavors by purchasing stalls during the planned activities.
Concerning the Park, she said their aim was to encourage the creative industry by providing a platform for upcoming artists to market their products.
She said they mainly targeted upcoming artists who could not afford Thapong membership fees, adding their role would be to develop them as they were expected to graduate from the centre.
The corporate world has been called to make donations of any kind to make this initiative viable as the artists will need materials for their projects.
The Trust has also planned a Market Day through which beneficiaries of various government programmes will be able to market their products.
Tickets cost P50 and corporate packages will be available.
KDT was formed by the Kweneng District Council in 2014 as the council’s investment and community development wing. ENDS
