Borehole rehabilitation claims life

Police in Letlhakane are investigating a case in which a 38-year-old man of Herero ward suffocated and succumbed to death rehabilitating a borehole at Rakops on Thursday.

According to Senior Superintendent Sarah Gabathusi of District No 8 policing area, the deceased suffocated while he was still digging inside the 25-30 metre deep borehole

Snr Supt Gabathusi stated that the deceased indicated to his co-workers that he was suffocating, but collapsed while they were trying to rescue him.

He was later retrieved by the Orapa fire marshals together with Orapa Police Station officers.

On other issues, Snr Supt Gabathusi said an eight-year-old boy of Mmatshumo died after his intestines were ripped apart by a fence ring-force while playing.

The deceased was taken to Letlhakane hospital on Saturday and died Sunday morning due to internal bleeding.

In another incident, a 57-year- old man of Tidimalo ward at Mokubilo was found dead outside his house at the cattle post on Wednesday.

Snr Supt Gabathusi stated that the cause of death was not yet known except that his lifeless body was found lying on the ground. ENDS
