Remembering Ray Molomo

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi says the late former National Assembly speaker, Mr Ray Molomo has played a significant role in the development of Botswana.

Dr Masisi, who had visited the family of Mr Molomo in Mochudi on December 26, pledged support from both government and Botswana Democratic Party as the family prepares for the funeral.

Mr Molomo, who was the former minister of education and Member of Parliament for Kgatleng, passed on December 25 at the age of 89, after a long illness at Gaborone Private Hospital.

Former Member of Parliament for Mochudi East, Mr Isaac Mabiletsa also hailed the late former speaker for his commitment to efforts seeking the independence of parliament.

He also said as former MPs, they were grateful to Mr Molomo for prioritising the welfare of former members of parliament, as well as spearheading the establishment of the Association of Former Members of Parliament, which he chaired until his death.
Deputy paramount chief of Bakgatla Kgosi Bana Sekai said Mr Molomo would forever be remembered for his contribution in tribal affairs.

Kgosi Sekai noted that Mr Molomo proved himself as a great tribesman who played a pivotal role in tribal affairs throughout his life.
Family representative, Mr Chris Molomo thanked the president and his family for the support. The funeral arrangements have not been made yet.

Dr Masisi was accompanied by First Lady Neo Masisi, ministers and other senior government officials.  ends
