Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has handed over a pledge of P86 000 to Botswana Defence Force (BDF) band.
Receiving the pledge on December 20, BDF Commander, Lieutenant General Placid Segokgo appreciated the Vice President’s support saying it was key in delivering their corporate social responsibility programme mandate as well as giving back to those in need.
Lt. Gen. Segokgo said over the past 29 years, the organisation had donated more than P6 million to the needy.
He indicated that the Botswana Defence Force, through the Band Wing engaged in national concerts tour around the country raising funds for charity and this year they covered 14 villages and towns.
He said such bands embarked on a month long trip around the country raising funds for charity every year via concerts popularly known as ‘BDF Bands in Concert Style’.
“Proceeds from these concerts are then donated to charity organisations nationwide. The reason for BDF charity concerts is to be helpful in a small way to those needy within the community and it is a golden opportunity to take BDF to the public and this was done in a musical forum,” Lt Gen. Segokgo said. ends
