Three driving schools accredits with BQA

19 Dec 2019

Minister of Transport and Communication, Mr Thulagano Segokgo says out of a total of 511 active driving schools registered with the Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS), three had completed accreditation with Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA).

Responding to a question in Parliament, Mr Segokgo said two driving schools had submitted applications for accreditation, while several factors attributed to low uptake, among them high fees charged by BQA and lack of capacity by driving schools to develop programmes to meet BQA requirements.

Minister Segokgo stressed that the ministry through Department of Road Transport and Safety together with BQA and driving schools had developed a programme for class B, which had the largest intake to help driving schools to start the process of accreditation.

Meanwhile, Mr Segokgo said there was a prescribed syllabus for theory and practical tests when obtaining a driving license in all categories.
He said the syllabus could be obtained at DRTS.
Palapye legislator, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi wanted to know if there was any official syllabus for theory and practical tests for drivers licensing in all categories and whether BQA or any regulatory authority accredited driving schools. ends
