Integrated farming vital
19 Dec 2019
Parliament has been told that the integrated farming in agricultural production systems is achieving its intended goals and objectives.
Answering a question in Parliament, Minister of Agriculture Development and Food Security (MoA), Ms Beauty Manake said the ministry had implemented an integrated farming policy approved by Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services in 2013.
She also noted that since then, various land boards continued to allocate integrated farms for utilisation under the said policy.
Ms Manake said the integrated farming entailed several economic values that obtained optimisation of land use in improved productivity.
She said it had also enabled farmers to diversify their farming enterprises that complemented each other and promoted maximisation of land utilisation.
“It has capacitated Batswana to produce more with less,” she said.
The assistant minister said the MoA was currently reviewing programmes to optimise policies adoption by farmers.
She was answering a question from Sefhare-Ramokgonami Member of Parliament, Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang, who wanted an update on the implementation of integrated farming and whether the programme was meeting its intended goals. ends
