Thamalakane North councillor commends media personnel

Thamalakane North councillor in Maun, Ms Gakologelwang Bethia has commended officers from departments of Information Services, Government Printing and Publishing Services and Broadcasting Services in Maun for donating toiletries to Bana Ba Letsatsi Rehabilitation Centre.

Councillor Bethia made the remarks at the handover ceremony of the donation to Bana Ba Letsatsi, a rehabilitation centre that empowers orphans and vulnerable children.

Ms Bethia urged the children to give God priority in everything they did and to avoid bad habits that could put their lives at risk such as drug and alcohol abuse.

She reminded the children that they were blessed to have received such gifts, therefore they should use them wisely.

Head of programmes for Bana Ba Letsatsi Rehabilitation Centre, Ms Gabatshwane Motlogelwa said that their centre was established in 2002, with the aim of giving support to the orphans and vulnerable children by offering them mentoring, coaching, psychological support and education.

The centre, she said, consisted of different professionals such as social workers, psychologists and teachers who ensured that the children receive necessary support.

She also indicated that the centre had 100 students coming from different backgrounds in Maun and surroundings areas.

For his part, the chairperson of the Wellness Committee of the three departments, Mr Boitumelo Munyandi said that they chose Bana Ba Letsatsi Rehabilitation Centre to assist the disadvantaged children, indicating that for more than 10 years, the departments had been giving back to the community.

Mr Munyandi also indicated that children were future leaders, hence the need to groom them positively from grassroot level.

A teacher from Bana Ba Letsatsi Rehabilitation Centre, Ms Lorato Dikolo also expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that it would change the children’s lives by giving them dignity.

She also encouraged departments to continue with the good spirit of giving to the children to make them happy.

The toiletries were bought through pledges and fundraising activities undertaken by the officers from the three departments. Ends
