Mmusi urges new entrants to drive vision

New entrants into the Botswana Police Service (BPS) have been urged to do all they can to drive Vision 2036.
Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi, made the call at a pass out parade at Botswana Police College on December 12.
“As you leave this training facility, you are going to implement, among other things, Vision 2036. This is a vision that spells out the direction and aspirations of our great nation,” he added.
The minister stated that the vision aspired for a crime free environment, coupled with peace and stability, which are fundamental for a sound competitive and thriving economy.
He said government’s aspiration was to transform the country into a knowledge-based economy, which required a re-orientation of the police service’s processes and services.
Minister Mmusi said maintenance of law and order was paramount and a prerequisite for every nation’s socio-economic and political development, adding ‘it is primarily, members of the police service who have the responsibility to bring about the law and order’.
Furthermore, he said, he was happy that out of the 510 recruit constables, 213 held professional qualifications.
He said the injection of officers with qualifications into the police service would help in an effort to pursue effective service delivery, adding that his ministry would continue to capacitate the police.
Furthermore, Minister Mmusi told the new recruits that for them to be effective and efficient officers, they must continuously be grounded on the legal and moral alignment of the society.
He said the public demanded a high level of procedural objectivity and standard of discipline from the police as well as to be served with fairness, respect and botho, hence he called on them to maintain professionalism, integrity, dedication and high ethical standards at all the times.
“I implore you to always remember your duty to your people, your home and your country. Never compromise on the good name of the Botswana Police Service or its integrity, for if you lose it you may never find it or get it back,” he cautioned. Ends
