Elderly people commemorated  international day of the elderly in Francistown on December 12.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele officiated at the day.

Objectives of the commemoration are:

• • To sensitise communities on the existence of the elderly, the challenges they face, their experiences and rights
•  
• • To appreciate elderly  persons and change the mind set of seeing them as liabilities but as resources
•  
• • To create a sense of compassion and inclusivity among the elderly 
•  
• • To create awareness on the society of the contributions made by the elderly people throughout the country
•  
• • To receive feedback from the senior citizens on the challenges they face as a result of the phenomenon of ageing and how such can be addressed and to come with mitigating factors to those challenges
