Francistown ushers in new council leadership

Councillor for Satellite ward in Francistown East, Mr Godisang Radisigo, has been elected the city council’s new mayor.
He will be deputised by Mr Ramolotsana Gaethusi of Tatitown ward.
Mr Radisego, who is a Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) councillor and former deputy mayor, garnered 12 votes against Mr Lesego Kwambala’s11 votes. There was one spoilt vote for the mayoral race.
Mr Gaethusi of BDP trounced Alliance for Progressives’ Councillor Gaone Majere of Tshwaragano by 15 votes to nine.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Radisigo, thanked councillors for having voted for him, saying it was a sign of trust and confidence on him.
However, he decried a decline in economic activities in the city due to closure of the mines and called for a robust action to improve the livelihoods of Francistown people.
Mayor Radisigo said bemoaned dilapidated infrastructure such as streets lights and roads.
Therefore, he urged councillors to utilise the revitalisation programme to attract investors and new opportunities.
Councillor Radisigo further said there was still a backlog of unfinished projects and requested that completion of such projects be speeded to build a better and prosperous city.
Earlier on, the city clerk, Mr Lopang Pule, had advised councillors to consider electing people who were ethical, visionary, team players, disciplined and could transform the city and embrace the fourth industrial revolution.
