Low compensation to deter negligence

12 Dec 2019

The Assistant Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security Ms Beauty Manake says the compensation amounts for each animal that has been put down as a result of foot and mouth control measure are P700 per animal and P200 per animal for small stock.

Answering a question in Parliament, Ms Manake explained that the compensation was not meant to be attractive but to deter farmers from deliberately allowing their animals to cross into foot and mouth infected areas. She, therefore, emphasised that the compensation was considered adequate for the purposes of disease control.

Bobonong MP Mr Taolo Lucas had asked the minister the compensation amounts for each animal that had been put down as a result of foot and mouth control measure and whether it was adequate.
