Relocation payments pending

10 Dec 2019

Parliament has learnt that payments for the relocation of Botshabelo/Sedie people to give way for the Maun Airport expansion is still pending.

Responding to a question in Parliament, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulagano Segokgo said the relocation affected 1 511 people as per the audit report on the exercise adding that there were 1 430 plots affected.

He said 1 009 people had received compensation from 1 039 people entitled while the plan was to pay the pending compensations that had been verified before the end of the current financial year. “To this end, a batch 30 names of claimants who have not received any compensation has been sent to Tawana Land Board to publicise and the claimants particularly are being collected and will be captured on GABS to effect the payments,” he said.

He said payments had been delayed due to the wrong compensation guidelines used in the initial assessments instead of the 2006 guideline. Maun East MP, Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile had asked the minister if he was aware of the pending payments to the Botshabelo/Sedie residents who had to relocate to Disana ward to give way for the Maun Airport expansion.  ENDS
