Floods affect 43 residents in Molepolole

10 Dec 2019

About 43 people from six households have been negatively affected by floods which hit Molepolole, Monday afternoon.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Moletsane Kabelo, the District Disaster Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in Molepolole Administrative Authority said the six families were provided with food and moved to live temporarily with their relatives.

He said the affected families have not been provided with tents, due to their relocation.

He said most of the families affected live in Motswasele which is a flood plain. He therefore called on the residents there to take precautionary measures during the heavy rainfalls.

Mr Kabelo said this was because the residents have been hit before and there are plans to relocate them to other areas within the village adding this has been elevated to the District Land Use Planning Unit (DLUPU).

Meanwhile, Mankgwenyane bridge remains closed as it has been damaged by floods and motorists have been advised to use alternative route passing through Newtown.
