Female pupils outshine males in PSLE

Female pupils have performed better than their male counterparts in all the subjects in the 2019 Primary Leaving School Examinations (PSLE).
That is according to the PSLE results released by the Botswana Examinations Council recently.
According to the summary of provisional results, in grade A, females recorded 24.46 per cent against 17.15 per cent by males.
In grade B, females came up tops again by registering 19.97 per cent while their counterparts managed to record 16.22 per cent and as well as in grade C where females recorded 37.03 per cent against 33.84 per cent by males.
The release from BEC says proportions of males obtaining grades D and E are more than that of females and the trend is continuing the from previous years.
Figures for grade D show that males posted 22.80 per cent as compared to 15.43 per cent by females and the trend continued for grade E where females recorded a mere three percent against 9.85 per cent by males.
Statistics from BEC also show that generally, females are performing better than males across all the four years from 2016 to this year.
For the year 2019, at subject level, females outperformed their male counterparts in all subjects.
The pass rate for Setswana subject was 90.52 per cent while males recorded 76.77 per cent and while girls recorded 77.79 per cent in English and boys managed a 60.36 per cent.
Similarly it was the same for Mathematics where females clocked 70.4 per cent against 58.08 of males and in Science, girls posted just over 60 per cent while boys managed just over 50 per cent.
Girls continued with their impressive performance in Social Studies, Agriculture and Religious and Moral Education.
Statistics show that an overall of 47 518, out of which 23 746 (49.97 per cent) females and 23 772 (50.03 per cen) males, sat for examinations this year in all the seven comprising Setswana, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Agriculture, and Religious and Moral Education. ENDS
