Leo makes u-turn as KDC chairperson

 Councillor Motlhophi Leo of Loologa has been elected as the new Kweneng District Council chairperson and his deputy is councillor Duncan Ramasiagopana of Gakgatla-Ramaphatlhe.

The two councillors were unanimously elected on December 6, taking over from Mr Jeffrey Sibisibi and his deputy, Cllr Tshepo Warreus who served from 2014 to 2019.

In his acceptance speech, Cllr Leo, who led the council between 2009 and 2014, implored councillors to work towards fulfilling promises they made during elections by showing devotion and commitment to their work.

“Let us apply our minds to critical issues that affect the electorate and operate jointly towards a common goal of achieving district developments,” he said.

Mr Leo also thanked the previous council leadership led by councillor Sibisibi, saying it was through his prudent leadership that the district made numerous achievements as far as developments were concerned.

Various sub-district councils under Kweneng District elected new faces into their sub-councils except the Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub-district where Mmankgodi North councillor Dukes Mafhoko retained his seat, deputised by Cllr Bakang Matlho of Nkoyaphiri Central.

Molepolole Administration Authority (MAA) will be led by Mr Allen Jacob of Boribamo East and Mr Simon Maroane of Mahetlwe-Ditshukudu ward is his deputy.Councillor for Mantshwabisi, Mr Meshack Tshenyego will lead Letlhakeng Sub-district Council deputised by nominated councillor, Ms Neo Segaise.

Cllr Segaise made it to the top of the local leadership after beating Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) Cllr Lopang Sebutlenyane of Salajwe by nine votes to seven.

The three sub district councils will commence business on December 9 while the Kweneng District full council meeting is scheduled for December 16-20. ends
