Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Dr Thapelo Matsheka, has commended Lobatse District Health Management Team (LDHMT) for utilising government initiatives aimed at uplifting communities.
Dr Matsheka said this at the second a Christmas party that Lobatse DHMT organised under the Community Home Based Care (HBC) programme recently.
“Government has come up with programmes aimed at improving the wellbeing of Batswana, home based care inclusive, which provide quality care, palliative care, counselling and spiritual support to clients and their families in a home setting,” he said.
Dr Matsheka, also Lobatse MP, extended gratitude to Lobatse community, especially the CHBC volunteers for doing a great job at their own free will.
Dr Matsheka said he was aware that LDHMT had registered 150 patients, covering Lobatse, Molapowabojang, Digawana, Lorwana, Mogojogojo and Gopong.
“Amongst these clients, some have been further assisted in other services such as social safety nets in Social and Community Development Programme, disability cash transfer and have also been supplied with clinical materials,” he said.
Furthermore, he commended private health practitioners for the pivotal role they played in improving well-being of the patients in Lobatse and surrounding villages.
“Allow me to extend my gratitude to Dr Kamba, who adopted CHBC programme since he is also doing home visits with the programme coordinator on weekly basis,” he said.
Dr Matsheka further applauded the LDHMT for organising the event for the CHBC clients.
He noted that the gesture would go a long way in strengthening the social relationship between LDHMT and the community.
“We are doing this as a way of communicating to you that, while you are in the condition that you are, we understand that you also need to feel recognised and cared for. We are giving you love, dignity and hope,” he said.
Dr Matsheka also encouraged them that, as people would be celebrating Christmas on December 25, they should rejoice since they would have celebrated a special one before.
For his part, head of LDHMT, Dr Bobby Kgosiemang, acknowledged that Batswana were a loving and peaceful nation, adding that because of the love they had for their patients, they had decided to organise a Christmas party for them, to wish them a speedy recovery and good health.
He noted that they also wanted to appreciate and encourage CHBC volunteers to continue providing care for the sick.
They were also given certificates of appreciation. Ends
