08 Dec 2019
Minister of Environment, Natural Resource, Conservation and Tourism Ms Phildah Kereng says the draft Tourism Policy was submitted to Parliament for approval in August. Answering a question in Parliament, she said the policy was expected to be approved during the current parliamentary session.
Through the Botswana Tourism Organization (BTO), she said her ministry provided business development facilitation to investors, individuals and communities who have identified potential tourism sites across the country.
The Minister further said services provided included advice on business concepts and advocacy to other stakeholders to be affected by the proposed project. Minister Kereng said her ministry remained open to assist the community of Kgatleng with advice on identified tourism sites and would engage with the Kgatleng District authorities on sites that may be assessed further for their potential in tourism development. Member of Parliament for Mochudi East Mr Mabuse Pule had asked for an update regarding completion of the review of the Tourism Policy, whether she was aware that Kgatleng District had many under-developed tourist sites and what would be done to develop such sites to benefit locals. ends
