Government is aware of coal deposits that have been discovered at Mmamantswe and Artesia in the Kgatleng District. 

Responding to a question in Parliament, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Mr Lefoko Moagi said the location in question was currently held under prospecting license number 069/2007 by Mmamantswe Coal company.

However, Mr Moagi said there was no set date as to when the company would commence mining operations. 

He said the company had not yet submitted a mining license application and a bankable feasibility report to support their application and commercial viability of the project. 

As for employment creation, Mr Moagi said there were no availed employment statistics from the project as the developments were still at the prospecting stage and the company had not yet done a detailed feasibility study.

Mr Moagi was responding to a question from Mochudi East Member of Parliament, Mr Mabuse Pule, who had asked if the minister was aware of the coal deposits discovered at Mmamantswe and Artesia. 

Mr Pule also asked the minister to state when the establishment of the mine would commence and the number of people it would employ. ends
