08 Dec 2019

Boswelatlou councillor, Mr Essop Pandor, is Lobatse mayor.

Mr Pandor was unopposed for the mayoral seat.

The election for mayor, deputy mayor and council committees took place in a special full council meeting on December 6.

Maokaneng ward councillor, Ms Tiny Dinoko, was elected deputy mayor by the 13-member local authority. Mr Pandor succeeded Ms Malebogo Kruger who was mayor for the past five years.

He promised in a brief acceptance speech to work with all councillors to drive service delivery. “The task of taking services to the people must now begin. The people of Lobatse and surrounding villages who get their services from Lobatse are expecting nothing else but delivery. That is what we ought to do,” he said. Mr Pandor also appealed to the new look council to foster good working relations.

Eleven of the councillors were newly elected for the current five-year term, while only two continued from the previous term.

“Our road map as a town council, our vision as a country and our development plan will require all of us to unite and work together.

I plead with all of us to stick together for the common good of our town,” he said.

Meanwhile, former mayor Ms Kruger returned to council as nominated councillor. The other nominated councillor is Mr Mosimanegape Dithebe. ENDS
