Autlwetse to launch children survey
08 Dec 2019
The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, is expected to officially launch the violence against children survey (VACS) report in Gaborone Tuesday(December 10).
A press release from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development says the launch will be at Fairgrounds Holdings.
The release states that the survey was designed to determine the extent of violence against children and establish its magnitude and required interventions.
The survey targeted adolescents aged 13-24 years (both males and females) for participation in data collection.
Commissioned by the United States government through Centre for Disease Control (CDC) on behalf of Botswana, the survey was completed in 2016 and had since been finalised and approved, says the release.
Some of the objectives of the survey were to determine the magnitude and nature of the problem, assess health consequences linked to it, identify potential risks and protective factors, help guide prevention programmes and policies as well as assess utilisation of services and make appropriate recommendations to the relevant authorities for policy guidance and programme development.
