Lobatse team gets boost

The Lobatse district team has received a new football kit for boys and girls and food items from Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) ahead of the team’s participation at the sixth Botswana Games.

The biannual multi-sport code championships for athletes aged 19 and below would commence in Gaborone on December 9.

The games’ objective would be to unearth budding athletes in different sporting codes and prepare them for higher class competitions.

Lobatse district team would compete against 15 other districts: Gaborone, Central, Francistown, North West, Kweneng, Southern, Chobe, South East, Selebi Phikwe, North East, Sowa, Ghanzi, Jwaneng, Kgalagadi and Kgatleng

BERA chief executive officer, Rose Seretse, explained that the donation was an encouragement by her organisation to the young players to represent Lobatse well.

“We have decided to be part of the initiative of the Botswana Games through supporting Lobatse team. It is particularly important because these are our youth, and our youth are the future of this country,” Seretse said on Wednesday.

She encouraged the team to take the opportunity offered by Botswana Games and display their talent to the rest of the nation.

Seretse said BERA decided two years ago to practice the initiative of corporate social responsibility in Lobatse because they were part of the community in the town.

She said they had supported different organisations in and around Lobatse over the past two years.

“Corporate social responsibility is a form of thanksgiving. You are saying let me show my appreciation by reaching out to the other person. We should be seen to all contributing in one form or another to the next person,” she said.

Lobatse deputy district commissioner, Kolobetso Sejakgomo, thanked BERA for the show of support to the team.

She commended BERA for always coming forth when approached for assistance by the Lobatse community.

“The BERA leadership is quite approachable.  They are always willing to participate in community activities in the town. We appreciate that very much as the leadership of this town. It is the kind of leadership we need in our country,” said Sejakgomo.BOPA
