Botswana-Nicaragua relations important

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has underscored the importance of Botswana and Nicaragua’s continued diplomatic relations which have been in place since 2007.
Welcoming Nicaragua’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Denis Colindres, President Masisi said ties between the two nations were premised on respect for human rights, sovereignty, territorial integrity, democracy and respect for the rule of law.
He congratulated Nicaraguan president Mr Daniel Ortega who is currently serving his fourth term for his re-election through a democratic and electoral process.
Minister Colindres who paid a courtesy call on President Masisi December 5, reiterated that Nicaragua was looking to strengthen diplomatic relations with Botswana.
He said shared values that both countries premised their relations on included mutual respect, peace and non-interference in dispensation of sovereign affairs.
“One of the targets of this visit is to establish a Memorandum of Understanding with Botswana to look into possible areas of cooperation between the two nations. We have also extended an invitation to President Masisi to visit Nicaragua as we work towards strengthening our diplomatic ties,” he stated.
The purpose of the visit was also to explore possible investment options across cultural and economic sectors.
Mr Colindres noted similarities between the two countries’ policy frameworks specifically regarding social and welfare policies.
The minister also relayed congratulatory message from President Daniel Ortega on President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s recent election into office.
Mr Colindres said Nicaragua would be touching base with other African states.ENDS
