Southern District councillors have elected Mr Thamiso Chabalala to the position of chairperson during a special meeting held at Tomela chambers in Kanye on December 4. Mr Chabalala garnered 55 votes to reach the zenith of the Southern District Council ladder against Mr Aron Mothibi who only managed nine, while Mr Sonny Phiri was unopposed for the position of deputy chairperson.

Mr Chabalala also Mahikana ward councillor has previously served as deputy chairperson while Mr Phiri was Moshupa Sub-district Council chairperson.

In his acceptance remarks Mr Chabalala thanked councillors for entrusting him with SDC leadership, describing the gesture as a show of faith in him.

He pledged to ensure employees of the organisation pulled together in one direction.

While he appreciated that people differed, he encouraged councillors to do so with dignity and respect.

The district commissioner Mr Mmoloki Raletobana also encouraged councillors to put party affiliations aside and serve the nation with honesty, diligence, honour and the best of their abilities without fear or favour. Mr Raletobana further challenged particularly first-time councillors to break new ground and take the nation a notch up with fresh solutions to everyday challenges the nation faced.

He also advised them to liaise with experienced members for guidance around the house.

Mr Raletobana explained that the public service remained neutral and urged councillors to advise where they saw gaps in terms of service provision. Meanwhile Mr Kgopolo Ramosesane retained his position as Mabutsane sub-district chairperson deputised by Mr Keberekile Pule while Mr Bonniface Leshomo became the Good Hope sub-district boss, to be assisted by Mr Beach Mooketsane.

As for Moshupa Sub-district council Mr Peter Sethibe emerged chairperson with Mr Obakeng Modisaotsile as his deputy while Mr Simon Ramaphoi was voted the Kanye Administrative Authority chairperson to be assisted by Mr Sebati Kabomo respectively. .ENDS
