03 Dec 2019

Civil servants have been encouraged to be patriotic when implementing government policies.

In his State-of-the-Nation Address debate, Lerala/Mmaunatlala MP, Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele also encouraged civil servants to appreciate the strides the country had made since gaining independence.

He said the civil service played a contributing factor on the delivery of national priorities in keeping with the government’s commitment to the nation to achieve accelerated job creation and improvement in the well-being of all Batswana.

Mr Modukanele, therefore, said the civil service was one instrument of governance vital to the provision of quality and abundant services to the people.

He said the civil service was responsible for mediating the creation, delivery and sustenance of services to the public hence it was part of the processes of policy formulation and execution through which services were provided to people.

Mr Modukanele applauded the civil service in his constituency for spearheading the implementation of projects in Lerala/Maunatlhala as well as their effectiveness in uplifting the livelihoods of the community they served.

He urged procuring officers in his constituency to support both macro and micro citizen entrepreneurs to boost the sustenance of locally owned business entities.

He said the success story of community enhancement was with the good working relationship between the civil service and the district local authority. He added that it was, therefore, crucial that the civil service has a common ground with the local authority on project monitoring.

He challenged the civil service to exercise due diligence when awarding tenders and certify that all the  Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB)  requirements had been complied with during the tender awarding process. He also cautioned the civil service of their involvement on corruption acts, indicating that it would not help government efforts to fight corruption.

Furthermore, Mr Modukanele stated that one of his priority area during his time as the area MP would be to facilitate a working rapport between the community and the civil servants, particularly in the health sector.

He said a cohesive working relationship between the community and the DHMT would ensure that the community had a clear understanding of services rendered to them. Ends
