Should the upgrading of Hukuntsi Sub-district to a fully-fledged district be considered, the exercise will be carried out in a thorough and structured manner.

This was said by Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse in response to a question from Kgalagadi North MP, Ms Talitha Monnakgotla. 

Mr Autlwetse said it would ensure that all the requisite steps were taken into consideration as prescribed by law, adding that the exercise would entail extensive consultations with those councils and their communities as prescribed by law under the Local Government Act of 2012.

“I have not yet considered upgrading Hukuntsi Sub-district to a fully-fledged district. In view of this request, I think the time is opportune to consider it holistically along with other requests that have been placed before me,” he said.

Ms Monnakgotla wanted to know when the minister would consider upgrading Hukuntsi Sub-district to a full district so that the region could have its own administrative authority.  Ends
