Expecting women need community support
03 Dec 2019
A former midwife and commercial farmer, Ms Setlotlegeng Nyoni, has appealed for the support of women during pregnancy, delivery and post-delivery.
She made the plea during Ntlo ya Botsetsi Support Group Dinner in Orapa recently.
Ms Nyoni said the objective of the group was to help prevent maternal and neonatal mortality and mobility in Boteti, through community involvement and education.
She said the purpose of the group was to reach out to different groups and places within Boteti East villages by mobilising the community since their involvement would promote ownership.
Ntlo ya Botsetsi Support Group, she explained, sought to bring women together by creating a safe and supportive environment by promoting women’s wellbeing during pregnancy, delivery and after delivery.
She encouraged the group to work together and not to be discouraged by criticism.
Ms Nyoni called on stakeholders to contribute towards the project.
The group coordinator, Ms Keanole Gabosutiwe explained that the dinner was to fund raise for a shelter where women could wait prior to delivery.
The founder, Ms Joyce Mukani, stated that the project was a year old and had 30 members from Letlhakane and other villages.
Ms Mukani said the group made sacrifices in the interest of helping others, adding that they cared for pregnant women admitted at the hospital and those still at home.
She said they had assessed the conditions under which pregnant women lived in and the challenged they faced.
Senior midwife at Letlhakane Primary Hospital, Ms Salome Ntau said with stakeholder involvement, Ntlo ya Botsetsi could succeed.
She said giving birth should be a joyous moment to every woman. Ends
