Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) has handed over a P350 000 project to Women Against Rape (WAR) in Maun as part of their corporate social investment.
DTCB constructed a boundary wall, an investment the company hoped and wished would help make the women and children feel protected from the violence they encountered.
Speaking during the handing over, DTCB human resource manager, Ms Mabel Mangwegape said women and children issues were one of the company’s pillars hence the collaboration with WAR.
“I am honoured that our company has played a small but significant part. WAR is not only a safe home for victims but they turn to see it as family loving volunteers,” she stated.
Ms Mangwegape expressed appreciation for the efforts of WAR workers, mostly volunteers and thanked its leadership for the guidance they provided.
WAR board chairperson, Ms Kitso Moetedi said the organisation, established 25 years ago, had been at the forefront in campaigns against gender based violence.
“Today, we have experienced a huge difference as far as issues of gender based violence are concerned,” she said.Ms Moetedi revealed that the organisation had provided shelter as well as emotional and psychological assistance for all those who suffered trauma.
Ms Moetedi appealed to the nation at large to join forces with the organisation and say no to gender based violence adding that together they could stop the practice and save innocent lives. ENDS
