DBES donates to Kgari Primary School
02 Dec 2019
Employees of the Department of Building and Engineering Services (DBES) in Serowe recently donated toiletries to Grace Kgari Memorial School in Serowe.
The toiletries consisted of sanitary pads for girls, bathing towels, bathing soaps, washing powder, and toothpaste among others.
When receiving the donations, the School Head, Ms Letshedile Kokoro said the toiletries would help students to come to school clean and would also help parents who could not afford to buy toiletries for their children.
She thanked DBES for the donation saying it would make a difference in her school.
Ms Kokoro said the school rarely received recognition from companies but the school always asked for assistance in the form of donations.
She thanked DBES for heeding their plea.
She said her school was faced with many difficulties that made the daily operations of the school challenging.
Ms Kokoro said one of the biggest challenge that the school was currently faced with was shortage of classrooms.
There are only 10 classrooms while the school has 14 classes resulting in four classes operating outside.
Ms Kokoro also said the school fence was not in a good condition making it easier for livestock to get inside the school and destroy plants.
She also decried that the students received less support from their parents as they did not take part in the school activities. She noted that few parents turned up when the school invited them for the Parents Teachers Association meetings.
She appealed to parents to support the school because without their contribution and support they could not achieve their goals.
Chief Technical Assistant at DBES Serowe, Mr Leabua Kealeboga said that they realised that the pupils at the school were facing challenges and they decided to step in to assist them.
He said they would continue to give back to the community as much as they can.
Mr Kealeboga said that the donation were made by employees from their own earnings as way of showing love and compassion to the learners.
Mr Kealeboga also said they wanted to offer assistance and contribute to moulding Botswana’s future leaders. BOPA
