Road accidents economic burden
01 Dec 2019
Road accidents are burdensome on the economy as they claim much needed manpower.
Speaking at the regional day of remembrance of road traffic victims recently Ms Kobamo Seatshogeng said government was forced to divert resources due to deaths and injuries caused by accidents.
She regretted that many deaths and injuries were caused by individuals’ irresponsible behaviour and actions, adding families were also not spared as they too had to deal with the costs of road accidents.
She therefore implored all Batswana to implement every strategy at their disposal to reduce road accidents.
Ms Seatshogeng called upon road users to exercise caution, adding government could not win the war despite the huge resources spent on road safety campaigns.
Nonetheless, she stated that public awareness and education campaigns were at the heart of government strategy, while it continued to reinforce law enforcement capabilities.
She said the success of road safety campaigns and strategy would depend on collective role by all stakeholders.
Other speakers were concerned about road users’ attitude toward each other and called for responsible behaviour to avoid road mishaps. Ends
