No plans to introduce reforms

The Minister of Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Mr Kabo Morwaeng says currently there are no plans to introduce reforms on the independence of Parliament and the principle of separation of powers as these are apparent in the country’s constitutional setup.
However, he said, the President had indicated government’s intention to review the Constitution of Botswana.
He said the question of whether there was a need to strengthen the independence of Parliament and the principle of separation of powers would depend on the outcome of consultations which the President said would undertake.
Bobonong MP Mr Taolo Lucas had asked if there were any plans to introduce reforms that could enhance the independence of Parliament and entrench the principle of separation of powers in the country’s democracy, the nature of such reforms and the tentative if such were being considered. ENDS
