Govt lifts suspension of licenses

27 Nov 2019

The suspension of issuing tourism licenses in NG19 (Khwai) and NG41(Mababe) concession areas instituted through Statutory Instrument No. 53 of 2014  which include Khwai and Mababe has been lifted through Statutory Instrument No.17 of 2019.

This was said by the Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism Ms Phildah Kereng when answering a question from Member of Parliament for Maun East Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile who had wanted to know if the suspension of issuing of tourism licenses in Khwai, Mababe, Sankuyo and Phuduhudu had been lifted.

Mr Kekgonegile had also inquired on the number of applications submitted and approved, if not why and when the suspension would be lifted.

To this end, Minister Kereng further explained that Sankuyo and Phuduhudu were not affected by the Statutory Instrument No. 53 of 2014 as they did not fall within NG 19 and NG41 concession areas.

She said only two applications had been received and considered by the Tourism Industry Licensing Committee at its sitting of October 30,  2019 and they were all approved. She said the submission of application was the responsibility of the potential business community.ENDS
