Botswana Defense Force (BDF) Golf Club has donated a minibus to Ramotswa’s Thuto Boswa Rehabilitation Centre, which offers stimulating learning and developmental environment for people living with disabilities.
The mini bus was handed over to the centre by the commander of the BDF Lt Gen. Placid Segokgo on Friday.
Speaking at the occasion, Lt Gen. Segokgo said the donation would address welfare issues of learners and change the lives of the school administrators and parents.
“These pupils commute to school every morning and then back to their respective homes by a minibus,” stated Lt Gen. Segokgo.
He commended Balete for having allowed the school, which served learners from different parts of the country, in their territory.
Lt Gen. Segokgo also lauded the BDF Golf Club for fulfilling the army’s corporate social responsibilities of transforming the lives of the less privileged and giving back to the community.
He said that government was concerned about the welfare of people living with disabilities and was in the process of rectifying the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The revised policy on care for people living with disabilities was tabled before the July Parliament and Lt Gen. Segokgo said government continued to provide comprehensive, holistic and human-centered social protection services for people living with disabilities.
“We have been motivated by these policies as the BDF to join government, the corporate world and society at large in an effort to transform the lives of people living with disabilities,” he said.
Thuto Boswa board chairperson, Mr Tshekiso Mokgatle said the donation came at the right time since they were faced with transporting challenges.
He said the centre appreciated the donation, adding that the gesture fulfilled the pillar of social development in the 2036 national vision.
Mr Mokgatle said the centre wished for the learners to play a meaningful role in the society, hence any effort geared towards that was welcome.
The school caters for those with physical and mental disability and currently has 45 pupils comprising 22 girls and 23 boys. ENDS
