Exploit conducive environment - VP

21 Nov 2019

It is up to interested parties to utilise the conducive business environment government continues to create, Vice President Slumber Tsogwane has said.

He was speaking in Gaborone on November 20 at the PricewaterhouseCoopers 50th anniversary and annual awards for the best published corporate reports and accounts.

Mr Tsogwane said government would continue to create the necessary infrastructure,  developing enabling legislation and regulations as well as the tradition of consultation and Botho.

“Further government will continue to strengthen institutions, systems and processes for the improvement on the ease of doing business. All these commitments will be in vain if the private sector, captains of commerce and industry do not lead in a manner, which attracts capital. You can and must do this through increasing your commitment to good governance, social governance and transparency in all you do,” he said.

Mr Tsogwane said capital flowed to economies which not only had enabling legislative environments and infrastructure, but ensured responsible use and investment of capital.

He said this applied to foreign direct investment which was key in accelerating Botswana’s economic growth and inclusivity.

Mr Tsogwane appealed to stakeholders to join hands with government and ensure that corporates and individuals paid their fair amount of tax.

Mr Tsogwane reiterated  government’s pledge to transform the economy. “I want to reassure you all of the delivery of exactly that which we promised. It is our firm intent to create a sustainable and inclusive economy, which fairly rewards all participants and generates revenue for social benefits and supports those who may not be able to participate fully in the economy,” he said.

Wilderness Holdings Limited scooped the overall prize, the best financial services sector award went to Letshego Holdings Limited, the parastatals trophy was grabbed by MVA while Sefalana won best design.

Wilderness also got the corporate social responsibility evaluation and the commerce and industry awards. Ends
